Pilgrimage of Cristo de la Sierra. In May. Pilgrimage in honor of Cristo de la Sierra during the first weekend of May. The Santo Cristo de la Sierra was found by a shepherd in the mountains of Abdalajís. Such was the devotion of the people that before the Civil War, they built a chapel dedicated for worship and since 1954 the pilgrimage in honor of Cristo de la Sierra takes place every year.
The pilgrimage begins with the descent of the Christ, taken out of the chapel on the Thursday in procession through the streets of the town and with the opening speech. On Friday, the pilgrims depart from the city of Málaga, walking through the different locations of Cártama, Pizarra and Alora until reaching Valle de Abdalajís on Saturday afternoon, site of the Mass and the offering of flowers to the Saint. On Sunday, holiday par excellence, there’s a typical fiesta near the village to finish in the Chapel with a Thanksgiving Mass.
