For the last eight years, the Day of the “Sopas Perotas” marks the first weekend of October as one of the most important events in the gastronomic and cultural calendar of the province of Malaga. This day remember the workers who in old times worked the lands and laborers who spent all day in the field. They made good use of this quick, easy and economical recipe to get the strength and energy back spent during the day to continue working.
The event, which this year will return to its initial location in Plaza Baja de La Despedía, will focus on free tasting of Perotas soup and local gastronomic products. Each year more than 7,000 rations of this city’s most typical dish are served together with the typical Aloreña olives. Throughout the day, one can enjoy a market with over 50 exhibitors offering local delicacies and traditional crafts of the area, as well as a tour of a dozen bars in the old town offering the «Route of the Soups».
At the same time there is a wide range of leisure and cultural activities: performances of Verdiales, flamenco, children’s activities, workshops and the draw of the contest of Álora Tourism.
